"In Summerland" is the third album by Australian noise/rock stalwarts River of Snakes. This is personal. It’s a personal vendetta, it’s a love letter that speaks to each band member’s love of cinema, literature, dark poetry, and vindictive themes of relationships gone by the wayside. The vocals are gloriously raw, the guitars are visceral, squealing and tearing at you, while the gnarly bass thumps a nervous angry pulse and the drums smash out a primal beat that holds it all together in a straitjacket. Dark, lean and unapologetically unpolished, it's a record that embraces simplicity, hypnotic repetition, and leaves its rough edges intact. This is River Of Snakes most straightforward and gritty recording yet, recorded mostly live over 2 days in the heart of Ballarat, above an old 1900s shop front. Listen carefully and you can nearly hear the spirits saying “Beware the stairs!!!”.
