Blue/Grey/Sky colour vinyl! Comes with MP3 Download.

Formed in 2009, Luca Brasi’s melodic, hard-hitting and precise punk rock did not take long to translate to the mainland. The band cut their teeth playing lounge rooms floors and filthy pubs with noisy, heart-swelling passion. 2011 debut album ‘Extended Family’, produced in their hometown with the help of mates Nic White and local hero Lincoln Le Fevre, drew inspiration from the geeky, warm punk sound pioneered by Lifetime and Jawbreaker and melded it expertly with the fiery, riff-driven punk rock of acts like A Wilhelm Scream and Polar Bear Club. The sound resonated strongly; scoring the band a spot in Triple J’s Short Fast Loud midyear report and legions of admirers the nation over. 2013’s follow up, the aptly named 7” release 'Tassie' further developed this sound and gained more ground, Kill Your Stereo proclaiming; “Luca Brasi are doing some serious good for Australian punk music at the moment.”

‘By A Thread’ highlights vocalist Tyler Richardson’s everyman lyrical refrains and the signature highly skilled guitar work of Tom Busby. This second album pushes the signature Luca Brasi sound into more dynamic territory. Eleven songs of intelligent construction with an eye for quality and considered production, delivered with all the warmth you would expect from an album recorded in the company of friends, at home in Tassie. It might be because of the lack of information available on her, it might have something to do with her musical pedigree. Battle Royal arrived in triumphant form, melding brattish punk rock and unrelenting percussion, it had vibrato to rival Gwen’s and swagger in spades. The accompanying video was next level, exploring the concept of Ecca’s multiple musical identities that critics have thus far struggled to pinpoint. The mystery of Ecca Vandal looked set to persevere, but this time it had several cheeky new facades.

After her first headlining performance in Sydney, Ecca was invited to open for seminal EDM act The Prodigy on their only Australian headlining show in March and despite the raucous response, returned home to Melbourne to smash out a residency at The Gasometer.

South African born with Sri Lankan Heritage, Ecca Vandal’s parents left South Africa after Apartheid in the late 80s, her parents making the decision to find a stable environment in which to educate their daughters. After settling in Melbourne, Vandal sunk her teeth into jazz at an early age before discovering the intoxicating world of hip hop and the DIY spirit of punk rock. Bjork is a musical hero, Miles Davis is an all-time favourite, and Mr Bungle and Fugazi led her to the tumult of Deftones and Meshuggah. To describe her influences as ‘broad’ doesn’t quite seem to cut it.

Ecca has continued to flirt with genres throughout her musical career, more often than not guesting with some of the country’s finest ensembles. Screamfeeder rode that surging wave, producing four acclaimed albums, enjoying significant airplay and touring relentlessly. Things were looking pretty good.

But by 1999 Screamfeeder found themselves backed into a corner by their American record label at the time, being legally prevented from recording a follow-up album to their 1996 smash Kitten Licks. The experimentation, which adds liveliness, doesn't sound measured. Even Joe Lally is allowed to sing, and it just happens to be one of the best songs on the record. Running against the theory that Fugazi is a pack of killjoys, numerous instances pop up where the band's twisted sense of humor is apparent. The group, formed in 2011 by childhood friends and lifelong collaborators Sean St. Charles (co-lyricist/drums) and Brennan Greaves (vocals/guitar), came together explicitly to try its hand at writing pop songs. St. Charles and Greaves were putting their hardcore band to rest, enlisting Britty Drake (co-lyricist/vocals/guitar) and Brandan Pierce (bass) to round out Pity Sex's line-up. Now, the band is using the foundation of 2013's celebrated Feast of Love as the framework for something bigger, stronger, and altogether more monumental. Coming off of tours with Ceremony, Eskimeaux, and Colleen Green—including a run in Australia—the band dove into the studio with Feast of Love producer Will Yip to harness that momentum into an album to showcase Pity Sex's growth. And if White Hot Moon wears its ambition on its sleeve, that's by design: the band looked to wide-screen albums by Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth for inspiration in finding a bigger sound. That shows: Drake and Greaves spin huge webs of sound, anchored in shoegaze but branching off in a dozen directions, from fuzzed-out power-pop (“Bonhomie”) to shimmering balladry (“Dandelion”) and back again, while St. Charles and Pierce lock into step subtly counterintuitive rhythms and floor-shaking low-end.

That inclusive attitude toward songwriting fuels Pity Sex's creative fires. Drake’s more intimate and confessional songs complement St. Charles’s imagistic lyrics, and vice versa. This confluence enriches White Hot Moon and encourages compositional complexity and a shared affinity for pop solidity in equal measure. The record features some of the most directly collaborative songwriting in the band's career, and that spirit has taken them in exciting directions—often several at once, dipping into different stylistic touchstones while maintaining a constant, grounding sense of emotion throughout. As St. Charles explains, “We thought a lot about pop conventions and how they work, and we're purposefully playing around with that.” The result of this playful but dedicated approach to their craft: wherever you visit White Hot Moon, you'll come away refreshed, revitalized, and ready for Pity Sex to guide you along the rest of the trip.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0586/2689/products/PCR110_500x500_04f51fc0-6b2c-4470-9997-5f7813d6ca08.jpg?v=1553911582
deep-heat-still-life
DEEP HEAT 'Still Life' LP

DEEP HEAT's debut full-length 'Still Life'!
