Metho are four heads from Melbourne, Australia. Born from the digital husk of Tom Lyngcoln’s Raging Head album from 2020, Metho features Lyngcoln (The Nation Blue / Harmony) on vocals and guitar, Jay Allen (Mid Youth Crisis / The Kill / Fuck…I’m Dead / Resistance) on drums and vocals, CJ Foley (The Blinds / The Stevens) on bass and vocals and newest member Jackson Reid Briggs (Split System / JRB and The Heaters) on vocals and guitar.

Where Raging Head was assembled like a remote patchwork, Metholated Spirit was pressure cooked in a room the old fashioned way. As the sessions baked, the depravity and disregard for musical structure ramped up. Like when Wesley Willis worked out that 2 minutes 40 seconds was the perfect song length and adhered to that as gospel, Metho thought they could shave a minute off.

The results are a kinetic clusterfuck of 18 songs in 25 minutes with most not breaching the 2 minute mark and some barely grinding to 10 seconds in length. Even the crook-neck Tok generation can tolerate these vulgar vignettes. Enjoy? Debatable.

Metholated Spirit roles through rotten punk like the opening title track, Sunk Cost (featuring a Slayer infused shred session from Paul Dempsey from Something For Kate), Short Supply, Tech Heavy and Gortex, rockers like Pressure Cooker, Can’t Get Clean, and Lonely Time (featuring baritone sax from Maddy Mac) and grinders like Ionic Bond, Strategic Peace, Strangely Athletic and Acid Cycle. The only consistent is the deep fried notes stuffed inside endless drum rolls like someone electrically charged your lunch.

The album also features a brute choir of Tom Carlyon (Standish Carlyon / The Devastations / Time For Dreams), Joel Silbersher (GOD / Hoss / Tendrils), Paul Dempsey (Something For Kate / Fanning Dempsey National Park) and CJ Foley.

Recorded and Mixed by Lyngcoln and mastered by the master Mikey Young. Artwork by Per Bystrom.
